Prof Hanif Kara OBE
ENGINEER
Prof Hanif Kara OBE contributes 40 years of industry experience in architecture and engineering. He was born and raised in Uganda, and for the past 25 years has co-led the London-based, interdisciplinary engineering practice AKT II, which today unites 350 people, with projects in 50 countries. Kara is furthermore a Professor in Practice for Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, and he routinely serves as an advisor for industry organisations such as the Aga Khan Development Network, the UK’s National Infrastructure Commission and is a Design Advocate for the Mayor of London. In 2022, he received the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to architecture, engineering and education. In the same year, he was bestowed the Fazlur R Khan Lifetime Achievement Award by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, becoming the first UK engineer to be selected.
